We are a bunch of friendly, easy-going target pistol shooters, with our own range at Golden Downs to the south of Nelson. We shoot many disciplines of matches based on a monthly roster.

Our facilities include a 200 metre range, a 100 metre range, two 25 metre ranges with turning targets, an action pistol range and an indoor air pistol and archery range. All firing points are covered except the action range which has covered loading/unloading areas. We also have a large clubhouse with kitchen, toilets, showers and even a bunkroom.

Originally formed about 1960, Nelson Pistol Club used gas operated pistols in the early days and is generally regarded as being the oldest active pistol club in the country. Cartridge pistols were not introduced into New Zealand until around 1964. The club is affiliated to the the sport’s governing body, Pistol New Zealand.

The club caters for most interests in Pistol shooting with both precision and action shooting accomodated. Olympic class ISSF matches take place along with classic pistol, black powder and for those who prefer a little faster action there is Cowboy Action and 3 Gun
