Grab your socks and head to the Rink for great fun and exercise during our public skating sessions.  Entry to regular public skating sessions is $10 and includes skate hire.

Public Skating Hours:
L8SK8 Every Friday Night – 6.30pm to 8.30pm
Saturday and Sunday – 1pm to 3pm
School Holidays (excl summer holidays) every day – 1pm to 3pm

On the first Friday of every month our L8SK8 transforms into a fancy-dress fundraiser wih games, prizes, special treats and more!  Fancy dress is encouraged but not required.  Entry to our special First Friday Fundraisers is $10 with all proceeds supporting one of our codes or their chosen charity.  Skate hire included.  Themes announced in advance on our Skate Nelson Facebook page.  Come join the party!

Learn to Skate Lessons – Saturday 10am to 11am – Open to all ages and abilities, Saturday’s lessons are a fun way to give skating a go.  We cater for those who just want to skate casually as well as skaters who aim for competition.  You’ll learn basic skating skills as well as a few tricks such as jumping, spinning, balancing and backwards skating.  Rollerblades are welcome though the use of quad skates are encouraged.  Skate shows, grading tests and other opportunities to show off your skills are held along the way.

Nelson Bays Roller Derby presents:  Summer Skate Sessions – Beginners welcome… Learn to quad skate for ages 16 and over – Sunday 6.30pm to 8pm

Artistic Roller Skating – We welcome new and experienced skaters throughout the season.  Contact us today to find a class suitable to your skill level:

  • Monday – 3pm to 4.30pm
  • Wednesday – 4pm to 6pm
  • Friday – 4.30pm to 6.30pm
  • Saturday (Learn-to-Skate) – 10am to 11am
  • Saturday – 8am to 1pm
  • Sunday – 3pm to 6.30pm

Interested in playing inline hockey?  We cater for all ages and all abilities and have gear you can borrow.  Training Times (March to September):

  • Tuesday – 4pm to 5pm – Beginners
  • Tuesday – 5pm to 7pm – U10s, U12s and U14s
  • Tuesday – 7pm to 9pm – Seniors
  • Tuesday – 7pm to 9pm – Seniors

Roller Derby – In addition to women who want to play roller derby, non-skaters and potential referees (men & women) are encouraged to join our league.  We will teach you how to skate, how to play or how to officiate.  Skating and other skills necessary for roller derby are taught through our various coached programmes listed below.  All trainings except Tuesday nights, take place at the Nelson Rink located just past Prokarts at Tahunanui Beach.  Derby League Training Times:

  • Basics – Sunday 6.30pm to 8.30pm
  • Advanced – Tuesday 6.30pm to 8.30pm (in Motueka)
  • Advanced and Scrimmage – Thursday 6.30pm to 8.30pm
  • Referee & NSO – Thursday 6.30pm to 8.30pm

Speed Skating – NRSC has a proud tradition of training top inline speed skaters with many members representing New Zealand at Oceania and World Championships.  We welcome new skaters throughout the year and encourage you to try it!  Non-members are invited to attend our Learn-to-Speed Skate classes on Monday afternoons (casual rate applies).  Skates can be provided but please bring a cycle helmet:

  • Learn-to-Skate – Monday 4.30pm to 5.30pm
  • Novice – Thursday 4.30pm to 6.30pm
  • Advanced – Monday 5.30pm to 7pm and Wednesday 6pm to 7.30pm
