We started this Trust out of a love for our Te Tai o Aorere (Tasman Bay) and the wider moana (ocean). We are a group of ocean lovers wanting to create tangible gain through environmental collaborations such as creating artificial reefs, cleanups and other marine restoration projects. By collaborating as a community, we gain trust which enables us to make bigger decisions together such as allocating areas for marine protection and other uses. A core activity is strengthening our connections to the wet places by delivering the Experiencing Marine Reserves, Whitebait Connection and Drains to Harbour programs to local schools and communities, involving the parents and wider community in their delivery. We foster kaitiakitanga (guardianship) of the marine environment.
Our team of dedicated individuals have put a lot of their own time into making this thing happen, however we pay a living wage for individual deliveries, projects and tasks. Our educational deliveries, biodiversity projects and management of the trust all require funding and we hope that you will help us to keep this beautiful thing going. Your help is much appreciated to help us maintain our vision:
‘Our community and treaty partners working together to restore a healthy, thriving marine environment in Tasman and Golden Bays to sustain connection, use, and enjoyment by present and future generations.’
