Based in sunny Richmond, we first put on our tramping boots in 1973 and since then we have grown from strength to strength thanks to our enthusiastic members and awesome ‘back yard’.
We run trips every weekend, and truly are spoilt for choices of tramping destinations. Right on our doorstep is Mt Richmond Forest Park, whilst Abel Tasman, Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks all lie within an hour or so’s drive. On long weekends and for extended trips, we venture further afield to the West Coast, the Canterbury High Country, Marlborough and beyond.
Waimea Tramping Club members are an active bunch, and in addition to exploring the Great Outdoors, we hold club meetings once a month, publish a quarterly newsletter, hold an annual photo competition, and get together for regular social gatherings. So do come and check us out – we’re a friendly bunch and would love to have you step out with us.
Waimea Tramping Club’s membership is presently about 80.
We organise tramps for each weekend, usually alternating a day walk on Saturday or Sunday with overnight trips.
We cater for all grades of tramps, especially on long weekends, and include mountain bike trips and socials in our activities.
Intending members are asked to complete two one-day walks first by which time we both will know a little about each other and you will be eligible for full membership.
